A Slice of Heaven, Sept 17 - Oct 3, 2005
By Lola Babalon

The Fall Equinox marks a time of equilibrium, days and nights are equally long. From now on the northern hemisphere enters the darkest part of the year. It is the harvest time, a time for letting go, and turning in. During Virgo time the collective mind is turned inward to analyze the self. During Libra we come down from the mountain, emerge from the cave and get involved again with others. When the individuation and soul-searching process of the Hermit phase is completed we’re ready to experience the supreme balancing act of relationship. People are tribal creatures, and generally not inclined to live in solitude. We associate with others so that we can grow as individuals. The whole is always bigger than the sum of its parts.
At the equinox the Sun moves from Virgo, the sign of meaningful service, into Libra, symbolized by the scales. A higher sense of order, balance drives this cardinal Air sign. Libra individuals are the peace makers, negotiators and consensus seekers of the Zodiac. The sign sports a keen sense of justice, aesthetics and fair play. Ruled by the charming planet Venus Libra’s are easy on the eye and easy to get along with. The romantic side of Venus manifests as creative ideals, and deeply committed partnerships. Only by looking into the mirror of love, by encounter with the unfathomable and troublesome ’other’ can we discover our own hearts. Relationships are teachings. Let’s embrace them wholeheartedly in all their agonies and ecstasies, capriciousness and crazy contradictions.
Currently the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter, the higher mind, inner teacher are in the sign of Libra, along with the south node of Moon. We all get to remember who we are, our roots values and commitments with each other.
The Tarot card attributed to Libra is called Justice. It shows the roman Goddess Justitia, blindfolded, holding up the scales. The principle of justice is manmade, an intellectual construct. Justice serves as a tool for executing government. Those in power make up the laws for the rest. The principle of Justitia is that of judgment and fairness. Yet there is absolutely no justice in nature. The universe is not fair. It does not behave in a fair or predictable manner. The balancing of the scales in Libra shows the principle of ‘what goes around comes around’ and ‘As above, so below’ and ‘You will harvest as you sow’.
Famous Topanga Libra: Bonnie Heather McCourt, Darby Warren, Debra Silbar, Livia Salamon, Julian Scott, Patrice Winter, Johnathan Yaney and there must be many more. Happy Birthday to one and all, may it be the best year ever!
Here are a few planetary influences and highlights for the next couple of weeks. Some of these are subtle, and others will influence you more strongly, especially if our birthday falls on or near them. Enjoy!

Calendar:
Sep 17
Harvest Moon 25*Pisces,
Sun conjunct Mercury, exact at sunset, 7:01pm, This Full Moon makes a kite aspect focused on the Moon with Chiron in Capricorn and Mars in Taurus. Mars also t-squares Pluto in Sagittarius, which sextiles Jupiter.
Hmm, a good time to say your prayers, meet with people, share ideas, deep feelings, make plans or joint ventures. Also good for healing work, high drama, power to the people potential.

Sep 19
Venus square Saturn, Venus trine Uranus
You can’t always get what you want… but you can certainly get what you need. So, if you are going to be eccentric on that day, you best pay attention to not get carried away. Else you may find yourself paying dues to the conservative elements of the powers that be.

Sep 20
Mercury enters Libra
Get ready to appreciate and enjoy the finer things in life. Take a look at the big picture. Promotes highly idealistic, pacifist thinking and the creation of win-win situations all the way around.

Sep 22
Sun enters Libra, Fall Equinox
This day always marks a turning point. The northern hemisphere goes into the darkest part of the cycle. Get ready for long nights of introspection, letting go into the bottom of the exhale.

Sep 24
Venus squares Neptune
Attachment / detachment issues will be certain to appear. Venus in Scorpio needs intensity, drama, and Neptune in Aquarius lofty ideals. Not an easy one. When in doubt, remember Osho approach: “It’s really quite easy: If it feels good you attach, if it feels bad you detach.”

Sep 29
Mercury trines Neptune
Welcome to the psychic realm of dreams, visions and premonitions. If possible take some time out to explore music, magic or meditation. Great for visual arts, painting, drawing, photography. Venture into the unknown, let the mysterious become visible.

Oct 1
Mars SR, Sun sextiles Saturn, Venus opposes Mars
Huge weekend for relationships to shift. Venus and Mars are in mutual reception in the signs of their detriment, as in badly placed, uncomfortable, challenged , maybe head-on confrontational. An intense day, followed by a quiet Sunday, where you get to process the things that happened. Take a breather here, before things plunge into the week ahead with a vengeance.

Oct 3
Solar Eclipse, New Moon 10* Libra, Mercury sextiles Pluto
Five planets deposited by Venus, 50% cardinal, 58% Air
That’s a lot of gears shifting all at once. If you have lots of air planets, you may want to take cover or focus on grounding. Eat your proteins and do something physical that day, like my girlfriend used to say “gotta move some blood.” Remember: too much Air, apply Earth! Try weight bearing exercises, gardening, anything physical out in nature. Great opportunities for new beginnings, projects and partnerships. If you want to get married, or do some prayers towards getting hitched, this is the day.

Much love to all and many blessings. To be continued…
