A Slice of Heaven Aug 4 to 21, 2005

The Dog days of Summer have arrived. The Sun’s journey through the sign of Leo makes it easy to get in touch with, and liberate your inner artist. Self realization is the name of the game, and what life is all about. Or like the hippies used to say: Do your thing! This is the perfect time to reaffirm your individuality against the collective projections of others.
How well you get to self-realize probably depends on the condition of your third chakra, the solar plexus. This chakra is located in the middle of the body, just above the belly button. The area is also known as the ‘middle burner’ in Chinese medicine, the place that breaks down food and transforms it into fuel.
It’s fairly easy to tell whether someone is centered or not. Someone that is centered in the third chakra experiences and radiates a certain presence. At that moment they are exactly where they want to be, alert, aware and at ease. There is no doubt, struggle conflict or ego involved. To find this center requires acceptance and agreement, not just with yourself, but with the world at large. This centeredness can be observed in martial artists, dancers, performers, and shamans of all stripes. It is also recognized as charisma, or power.
Un-centered people radiate just the opposite energy. They appear nervous, frazzled, scattered, in their heads, and often literally beside themselves. During the next two weeks, feel encouraged to try out a few things to get in touch with the third chakra: enjoy your yoga, dances pr paintings . Any kind of art work or performance can get you in touch with your body, and into the present moment. During the hot season it helps to support your digestion with bitter or cooling herbs like leafy greens, dandelion, citrus or aloe vera. Too hot, too much fire? Apply water! Enjoy your dips, sips, soaks and salads.
