A Slice of Heaven

A Slice of Heaven VIII, May 8 - 23. 2005
By Lola Babalon

Overview
Welcome the lovely month of May, where nature is at its prettiest and best. The mustard flowers are up to 8’ tall here in Topanga, the hillsides studded with deep purple lupines, wild sweet peas and the weed-whackers are out in force. The Sun is in the last part of Taurus. Enjoy creature comforts at this time, feel good and put your body at ease. Now you can grow thicker skins, take care of your body, shrug off burdens and enjoy good food in good company. On a physical level Taurus rules the neck and shoulders, so if you’re up for it, get some bodywork or see your chiropractor. When the body relaxes, so does the mind.
The time between the New and Full Moon known as the ‘waxing’ Moon is great for taking things in, growth, expansion and to build. The ebb and flow of the lunar cycle can be compared the rhythm of breath. The inhalation rises until full, followed by an exhalation until empty. Think of it as the nature equivalent to the yoga mantra: “Breathing in, I receive, breathing out I give back.”
About the planets: There aren’t any good or bad days, just different ways of dealing with what’s already there.
Here are a few planetary highlights, which will affect you more if your birthday falls on or near them.

Birthdays:
May 8
The New Moon on Mother’s day: re-connect with the nurturing principle. Honor your physical mom, and those that have fed or supported you in the past. The New Moon is a time of turning inward, to get in touch with resources, assets and re-parenting. Also Mercury trine Pluto: good for deep conversations, truth talking, counsel and sharing.

May 9
Moon and Venus go into Gemini:
Things lighten up and there is more humor, ease, playfulness, diverse interests, curiosity and expansion.

May 12
Mercury enters Taurus
Bringing mind and body back together, trusting your instincts, make use of nature as there is little earth element/energy.

May 13
Friday the 13th: No need for superstition especially for those born on a day that adds up to 4, such as the 4th, 13th, 22nd, 31st of any month. This number is ruled by Uranus and relates to individualism, eccentricity, and freedom at all costs. Friday the 13th may just be your lucky day!
But then the Moon is void of course in the sign of Cancer from 8 am to 10 pm: an in-between time with lots of wheel spinning and little tangible results. Good for meditation, enjoying the comforts of your home and garden. Not great for getting things done.

May 15
Mars conjunct Uranus in Pisces: Sudden action, surprises, accidents and impulsivity with little fore or hindsight. Try to take it easy on this day, life is already crazy enough, there is no need to add to the commotion.

May 17
Venus in Gemini trine Jupiter in Libra:
Facilitates lofty ideals, generosity, expansion and a sense of beauty, it’s a lucky day for some air signs. Those born on Jan 9th, May 30th and Oct 2nd may see large chunks of money heading their way. A good time for artwork, creativity and those who like to gamble or take financial risks.

May 18
Venus in Gemini square Uranus in Pisces:
Inclined towards adventures, disinclined to boring routine tasks. There may be sudden changes or surprises on this day, possibly tension between girlfriends.

May 19
Moon eclipse Jupiter, Neptune stations retrograde:
Celebrate your relationships on this day and bond deeply with others. Good for meditation and lucid dreaming.

May 20
Sun enters Gemini: A time to lighten up, communicate freely and enjoy some comic relief. Mercury, the messenger of the Gods rules this sign that is known for its tricksters, magicians and comedians. Gemini is a versatile, ambidextrous and multifaceted sign, more on it to come in the next issue.

May 22
Mercury square Neptune, Venus square Mars,
Squares create tension, so there may be communication challenges and relationship issues on that day. Make sure to state your intentions clearly. Don’t rely on your lover’s ability to read your mind.

May 23
Full Moon at 3* Sag.
This is the perfect time to be outside, go on a night hike, to catch a breath of fresh air. Make time to be with friends and lovers. Good for expanding boundaries, new beginnings and horizons.

Try this:

Tapping
Stand tall and broad, with your feet parallel and hip-width apart. Rub your hands briskly for a minute or so until they feel warm. Keep the fingers together, so there are no gaps, and cup the hands slightly. Then tap yourself, starting at the head. Full hand contact, gentle, firm, find a rhythm that feels good. Tap all the way around the head, face, neck and shoulders, chest, upper back, armpits, tap down one arm and the other, around the waist, lower back, hips, thighs, behind the knees, calves, ankles, feet, all the way down. Then stand tall for a minute, breathe and feel deliciously tingly all over. Good for you! Also known as fluffing the aura.

Dowsing
Take a wire cutter and an old-fashioned wire coat hanger. Carefully cut the thing in half, remove the hook and bend the remaining two even pieces to a 90* angle. Stand up and hold one wire loosely in each hand. Curl the fingers around it, keeping it fairly loose with one end vertical and the other pointing straight ahead. Now take a breath, relax and slowly walk around the house. Notice any changes or movement in your ‘antennas’ when you step up to a person, a waterline, or electronic appliance.

Last January I was walked by the mudslide on Cheney Rd and saw a Caltrans crew using this technique to dowse for the water main. Probably not in their manual… Feel encouraged to experiment, share your results or ask me for a demonstration.
In the meantime, creating comfort is a good meditation during Taurus time. Get some while you can, because Gemini is whole new ballgame. As Taurus is the fixed, slow and dense Earth element, Gemini is witty, curious and changeable - mutable Air.
More on this to come in the next issue, until then, much love to all and many blessings.
